HABITAT FOR HUMANITY HOLDS ANNUAL 5K

Honesdale, PA – Habitat for Humanity of Wayne County held their annual “Run for the Roses,” 22nd Annual 5K Run/Walk, on the brisk morning of Saturday, August 26, 2017. Participants ran to show their support for the work the local Habitat for Humanity does throughout the county.
The race and male overall winner was 29-year-old Steven Brown with a time of 17:40. Tiffany Leventhal was the first female overall winner with a time of 19:41. Trophies and roses were awarded to the first place overall male and female finishers, with medals presented to the top age group finishers.
Habitat President, Mark Graziadio, fired the starter’s pistol at 9 a.m. to get the race started at the Honesdale High School Track Complex and took racers over a winding 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) course onto Terrace Street and Schoolhouse Road, before finishing back at the High School Track Complex.

Habitat would like to thank Wayne Highlands School District for use of facilities and sound system, Commonwealth Health for the on-site ambulance, Castek’s for the flowers for male and female winners, Scranton Running for the timing, results, and online videos, Dave’s Food Town and Stephen’s Pharmacy for water and oranges, local businesses featured on the back of the race shirts for their donations, and the many volunteers who offered their time to make this race happen, especially Richelle Stephens, Habitat’s Race Coordinator.
Habitat for Humanity of Wayne County was founded in 1990 by Thomas VanOrden, Jesse Fisher, May and Mel Rutherford, Bud Rue, Peg and Dale Rosenburg, William Mamber, Dorothy Samson, and John Buckley. The non-profit organization celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2015. Habitat’s vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
Habitat for Humanity of Wayne County is currently working on the rehabilitation of Home #21 on Ridge Street in Honesdale, PA. Recently administration and members of the Honesdale Football team volunteered their time at the residence.
