HABITAT FOR HUMANITY HOLDS ANNUAL 5K
Honesdale, PA – Habitat for Humanity of Wayne County held their annual “Run for the Roses,” 27th Annual 5K Run/Walk, on the morning of Saturday, August 26, 2023. Participants ran to show their support for the work the local Habitat for Humanity does throughout the county.
The race and male overall winner was Chase Predmore, 14, of Canadensis, PA, with a time of 18:34:40. Kate Korty, 16, was the female overall winner with a time of 19:58:40. Trophies and roses were awarded to the first place overall male and female finishers, with medals presented to the top age group finishers.
Habitat President, Mike Rollison, kicked off the event at 9:00am at the Honesdale High School Track Complex and took racers over the 5-kilometer (3.1 miles) course finishing back at the High School Track Complex. The course was redesigned by Diane Scarfalloto for the race back in 2019 and modified again this year to accommodate the football field improvements being completed.
The top finishers in the female divisions were:
Female 11-15 – 1. Gabriella Foley
Female 16-19 – 1. Kate Korty, 2. Anna Sebastianelli
Female 40-44 – 1. Tiffany Leventhal
Female 80 and Over – 1. Cathy Howell
The top finishers in the male divisions were:

Male 20-29 – 1. Samuel West
Male 40-44 – 1. Mike Salvaggi

Male 80 and Over – 1. Fred Howell
The top finisher in the 5K walk was Martin Nowak.
Habitat would like to thank Wayne Highlands School District for use of facilities and sound system, Honesdale Greenhouse for the flowers for male and female winners, WIL-TIME Event Management for the timing and results, J&C Awards for the trophies and medals, local businesses (featured on the back of the race shirts) for their donations, and the many volunteers who offered their time to make this race happen. The Wayne County Commissioners generously donated $1,000 again this year and Habitat thanks them for their continued support.
