Habitat Breaks Ground for House #22
Honesdale, PA – Board Members, partner families, and volunteers gathered at 18 Elizabeth Street in White Mills on Sunday, July 14 for the groundbreaking of Wayne County Habitat for Humanity’s 22nd home.
The property was donated to Habitat by Yeugene Atayan after a fire destroyed the two-story home on the premises. With the generous assistance of Willy Reinfurt of Reinfurt Excavating and Dan Card of Waste Management, the charred remains were removed, and Beth Vail began designing the plans for a new home. The foundation is expected to be set later this month and the all-volunteer construction crew will begin building the new home.
Habitat’s Family Selection Committee has begun accepting applications for a Partner Family. This home will be in the Wallenpaupack School District. Families are expected to contribute a minimum of 300 “Sweat Equity” hours prior to purchasing the home at approximately 90% of the construction cost. The “Sweat Equity Hours” can be their own time or time donated to the project by friends and family. For more information regarding this or another home, or to volunteer with Habitat, visit them online at www.hfhwcpa.org or call and leave a message at 570-470-0930. Since Wayne County Habitat for Humanity is an all-volunteer organization, the office is not always staffed.
Many volunteers put in countless hours to make these homes possible for residents of the Wayne County community. Annual fundraisers and events are held throughout the year to raise funds for the builds, including the upcoming Annual 5K Run/Walk – “Run for the Roses” – on Saturday, August 24, 2019. Get all the details and registration forms at www.hfhwcpa.org.
