Honesdale Borough has agreed to sell a former abandoned property to Habitat for the construction of affordable housing units. Because this project qualifies under the PA Department of Community & Economic Development’s (DCED) Neighborhood Assistance Program, should our application be approved, donors would receive 75% in state tax credits on the amount of their donation.
The project includes:
The first step in the application process is to solicit support from individuals, businesses, corporations and various entities who may benefit from the tax credits. To qualify for the Tax Credits, signed commitment letters must be received by June 19, 2020 to accompany our application to DCED.

- Purchase of the property from Honesdale Borough and acquiring a survey of the site.
- Design of the housing units, with input from interested neighbors, by Richard Pedranti Architect of Milford. RPA is a Nationally Recognized expert in the design of energy efficient homes. We expect that these will be the 1st Passive Habitat homes built in PA.
- Obtaining Zoning Variances to allow for the construction of the housing units.
- Solicitation, interview and approval of qualifying Habitat “Partner Families”.
- Construction of the housing units using locally purchased or donated materials and labor.
- Sale of the housing units to “Partner Families,” financed by a mortgage through Habitat.
